"Good" News?

Atlanta seems to be making the news a lot - in both positive and negative ways. The positive, for example, is about the high school where the seniors took on Darfur as their "cause" (see http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=98456).

The negatives are 1) the lawyer from Atlanta who has TB, and 2) the CDC which not only didn't stop the lawyer from traveling to Greece for his wedding, but has also lost over $22 million worth of equipment.

There is always plenty of negative news in the media - but the story on the highschoolers who took on the cause of Darfur is very uplifting. Can you add any other items of news which are positive/affirmative/beneficial, etc., etc.? How many can we find in one week?

Come on - contribute!!!!! :-)

I often read "alternative sources of news" so there's more positive news. The Mennonite Weekly Review's (don't dismiss it because of its name) cover story featured a peace delegation from the Centers for Peace and Justice which has just visited both Israel and Palestine. The article quotes Jews, Muslims, and Christians from the area who strive for peace.

On the next page of the paper I see that non-governmental relief organizations are almost finished clearing debris from Greensburg, Kansas after its devastating tornado. A particularly interesting photo features an Old-order German Baptist Brethern man with full beard running a bobcat, clearing debris.

In another article a couple is bicycling from Newton, Kansas to San Jose, CA to raise money for bicycles for health care workers in Africa.

Good news must not sell well, because there's not a lot of it in traditional sources. I am a devoted fan of NPR but though they have human interest articles they don't have a lot about people who are doing things to change the world. I'm sure there are exeptions but none pop to mind.

Ok let me see, there are quite a few articles I can think of that made me feel happier in general...Here are a few:
Backback delivery to children in Kirkuk
Man wakes up after 19 yr coma
Sissi's jewels found
Rescued Toddlers
It's very hard to focus on finding the good in all that the media presents in such sensationalistic ways! UGH!
